DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 31 AUGUST 2026
A two-month residency at Fonden FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen combines studio working and networking. The purpose of the residency programme is to accelerate the residency artist’s international career by offering curatorial mentoring and by organising portfolio meetings with Danish or Denmark based professionals in the visual arts field. The duration of the residency programme is two months, and will be organised twice a year, mid April-mid June & mid August-mid October. The grantees will receive a working grant and a travel grant.
Applications for both residency periods: April 15 to June 14 and August 15 to October 14, will be accepted until 31 August 2026 at 4pm Finnish time (EET).
YOU MAY APPLY FOR:
two working grants for two months for visual artists
working period: April 15 to June 14 and August 15 to October 14
the working grant amounts to €5,500 per two-month residency
the programme includes a mentor, and 5–6 portfolio review meetings
you can apply for additional travel grant. The amount of travel grant depends on the selected means of travel; see further information from the application guidelines.
The residency programme is tailored to the individual needs and practice of each participating artist. Throughout the residency, the artist is supported by a local mentor-curator selected by FABRIKKEN. In addition, 5-6 portfolio review meetings are arranged for each artist, coordinated by the Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark. These meetings offer the artist an opportunity to discuss their artistic practice with Danish or Denmark-based art professionals, including curators, gallerists, and critics. Artists are expected to prepare for these meetings in advance by ensuring that their portfolio and/or website is up to date and by being ready to present their work. The purpose of the meetings is to support artists in developing their international networks and gaining insight into the Danish and broader international contemporary art field.
Fonden FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen is a natural meeting place for visual artists and designers. It brings together practitioners from different artistic fields at various stages of their careers, from emerging to established professionals. Between 70-80 professional artists and designers work at FABRIKKEN, where they are provided with private studios that are accessible around the clock. In addition, a shared 1,000 m² production and event space is available, as well as basic workshop equipment for artistic work (general wood‑working machine, welding tools, ceramic kiln, spray‑painting booth, printing press).
N.B. When considering applying for the residency programme, please note that accommodation during the residency takes place in the private home of a Copenhagen‑based artist or curator chosen by FABRIKKEN. This means that kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared.
The residency programme is realised in collaboration with the Finnish Cultural Foundation, Fonden FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design and The Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark.

To be eligible to apply, the applicant must be a Finnish or Finland-based professional artist. The programme does not accept Danish nationals or residents of Denmark.
